Land transfer tax
Alberta levies no land transfer tax. Buyers pay Land Titles registration fees instead.

| $900,000 | $950 | $770 |
| $1,200,000 | $1,250 | $1,010 |
$50 plus $5 for each $5,000 of the mortgage amount or portion thereof.
Sales tax on the mortgage insurance premium
Alberta charges no sales tax on the mortgage default insurance premium. Only Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan do.
First-time buyers
- No provincial first-time buyer rebate. Alberta has no equivalent of the British Columbia or Ontario transfer tax exemptions, because it has no transfer tax to exempt anyone from. The federal Home Buyers' Plan and the First Home Savings Account still apply.
Sales tax on a vehicle
Alberta charges GST only, with no provincial sales tax on a vehicle. A trade-in comes off the price before tax is charged. See the car payment calculator.
Work it out for your own purchase
Income tax differs by province too, and it changes what you actually have to spend far more than transfer tax does.
